Gannett Fleming, Inc. Assistant Resident Engineer in Wilmington, North Carolina

What You Will Do:

Basic function and scope of responsibilities

Under supervision of Sr. Resident Engineer/Project Manager, provides construction management services for transportation projects. Performs routine assignments which are clearly defined and require the understanding of NCDOT standard specification and drawings, project specific construction documents, procedures, and criteria. Assists with construction contract management, change order resolution, quality assurance activities, and progress payment and schedule reviews. Facilitates construction progress meetings and coordination meetings. Leads construction inspection field staff.

Principal Responsibilities and essential functions

  • Documents project meetings
  • Provides input for and monitors project schedules.
  • Leads construction inspection staff.
  • Performs periodic construction observation and inspection.
  • Prepares reports and correspondence.
  • Prepares and checks quantities for measurement and payment purposes.
  • Provides input to construction payment applications.
  • Assists with change order preparation.
  • Reviews and recommends approval of project specific submittals and other technical data related to roadway and structure construction
  • Proficient with construction management software for document management.
  • Performs constructability reviews.
  • Assists with Risk Management assessments.
  • Prepares and monitors Quality Control and Assurance Plans.
  • Reviews and applies safety philosophy and program to all operations.

Education | Experience:

Education and Licensing requirements

  • BS in Engineering or Construction Management preferred or equivalent education + experience?
  • PE (after 5 years of experience)

Training, Skills, Knowledge and/or experience

  • 3-5 years related experience with NCDOT projects
  • 10-hour OSHA Safety course
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook),MicroStation and ADOBE.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess a driver's license to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive lines of communication between other technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public. Capable of effectively communicate in a clear, concise, organized, and persuasive manner.

Additional Notes

  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Mix of field and office work environments. Travel to work sites for an extended period may be required. Must report to New Bern James City project field office on a daily basis with a reasonable commute distance. Available for night time and weekend duty if necessary. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to independently travel and be physically present in the office or at a client site. Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
