The Boeing Company is looking for multiple Model Makers to join our team in Tukwila, WA .
Position Responsibilities:
Build models to scale, such as aircraft, missiles and engines from various materials (e.g., aluminum, steel, wood and fiberglass)
Assist in various types of wind tunnel tests (e.g., Aerodynamic, Flutter and Force)
Work can be performed at remote sites, both foreign and domestic, or at the factory and in the field
Employment in this position requires fine finger manipulation, flexion/extension, handling, lifting up to 30 lbs., rotation of head/neck, sitting, standing, walking, contact with metals, plastics and solvents, exposure to noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye, ears and feet
Obtain assignment/work from lead, supervisor, tie-in book or from ready to work order (W/O) file. Work priority is determined by schedule date on order, or lead/supervisor
Obtain appropriate drawings, specification documents and/or sketches, using computing systems (e.g., Bold/Web) to retrieve information if drawings, sketches, and/or documents are not with W/O
Read W/O and blueprints to determine what has to be done and what types of material will be required to fabricate model (e.g., aluminum, steel, balsa wood, fiberglass)
Plan and sequence work and perform layout where true views exist
Heat-treat material to proper temperature per BAC specification using heat treat oven
Identify and select necessary equipment from shop storage area or tool room such as bombsights, micrometers, height gages, dial indicators, depth gage, tooling angle blocks and cubes
Verify current tool certification dates
Use shop math, geometry, and/or basic trigonometry to calculate dimensions to fabricate parts
Set-up, operate and adjust numerous types of machine tools (e.g., C.N.C. and conventional lathes and milling machines) to machine parts from various types of material
Fabricate or repair laminated fiberglass, or balsa wood models by cutting material to size, correctly mix resin and catalyst, build up in layers to obtain specified thickness and weight, applying gel-coat, fabricating and attaching stiffeners
Fabricate or repair epoxy resin model or part from mold by applying parting agent, correctly mixing resin and catalyst, make pour
Fabricate parts (e.g., landing gear doors, spoilers, instrumentation panels) from sheet metal using, shear, saw and break form
Fabricate, assemble, and install pressure and temperature test tubes (e.g., Rake assembly) in models, braze and or epoxy
Make parts removable and interchangeable from model
Drill and tap holes in parts for attach bolts and drill and ream holes for dowels
Fabricate and assemble parts/model using hand tools as well as mills and lathes
Shape with files and sanding paper to ensure exact contour, smoothness, fair, weight and scale within tolerance
Apply finish to model by painting per drawing specifications
Install test instruments (e.g., balance) into model
Torque to engineering specifications
Assist in the installation and removal of model in various types and sizes of wind tunnels (e.g., Transonic, Supersonic, Icing, and Low Speed) for testing purposes
Make adjustments to model during wind tunnel and vacuum chamber testing, work with customer, instrumentation technician, and engineering lab
Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., lubricants, paints, epoxies, adhesives, and solvents) in approved manner (per Material Safety Data Sheets) using personal protective equipment
Operate various types of woodworking tools (e.g., Table Saws, Band Saws, Planer, Router)
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. Some travel will be necessary, as required.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
1+ years of experience with conventional lathe, milling, precision measuring, power, pneumatic and hand tools
1+ years of experience with drilling, tapping, fitting, forming, sanding and polishing
1+ years of experience with reading and working from blueprints, sketches and plans
1+ years of experience with spray painting (on the job or in an educational environment)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience with brazing, soldering and/or welding
Experience with CNC milling
Experience with precision hand finishing
Relocation:

Summary pay range: $24.00/hour - $48.81/hour
