University of Rochester Speech/Language Pathologist in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Provides diagnostic, habilitative and rehabilitative speech-language and swallowing services.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Under general direction and with latitude to exercise independent judgment:

  • Performs and interprets speech and language evaluations for both patients with common communicative disorders and for those requiring more specialized care such as patients with dysphagia, laryngectomy and aphasia.

  • Plans and provides speech and language therapy. Develops and initiates treatment programs for more complex patients. Assists Speech-Language Pathologist II with evaluation and treatment of most complex cases.

  • Provides counseling and guidance to patients and their families with regard to the disorder. Adapts existing resources to meet the patient's needs.

  • Maintains comprehensive working records for each patient and communicates information through written reports and hospital chart notes.

  • Recommends changes in standard departmental practices.

  • Responsible for clinical teaching with medical students and house staff regarding speech and language disorders.

  • Identifies potential research projects and assists with the design and implementation of clinical research. May assist in data collection activities.

  • Performs other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • Master's degree in Speech Pathology.

  • Prefer 1-2 years clinical experience in Speech Pathology.

  • Eligibility for Certificate of Clinical Competence and New York State license in Speech Pathology.
