Google Senior Software Engineer, Google Home Camera Software in New Taipei City, Taiwan

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 years of experience in embedded system development with technical leadership or people management.

  • Experience in one of the following categories; camera software stack, networking, or video streaming.

  • Experience in C or C++ programming.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in Linux camera software stack development such as camera driver, hardware abstraction layer, framework, and application.

  • Experience in networking, video streaming, or camera system development and optimization.

  • Experience as a Technical Lead and interested in IoT camera and smart home technologies.

  • Excellent design skills in networking, embedded Linux, network video streaming, and camera stack or camera system design.

In this role, you will leverage sound detection and Large Language Models (LLM) to help keep users safe and secure. The team is responsible for embedded software stack for Google Nest Camera devices. This involves application logics, video/audio stacks, media/network, processing, client/server communication, and unique on-device machine learning integration.

You will combine Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create helpful experiences for users. You will research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make users interaction with computing seamless.

The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Nest team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

  • Design and develop the camera software stack for next generation Google Home camera and doorbell devices.

  • Track and communicate progress and risks, maintain alignment with product roadmap to various stakeholders, and own development and shipment responsibilities.

  • Own full software cycle from prototype, design, development, testing, integration, debugging, product launch, and collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Product Manager, User Experience, Engineering, Productivity, and Partner Engineering).

  • Contribute to the Google Home Camera user experience to increase competitiveness and product strategy.

  • Lead projects, oversee Photon architecture design and implementations, product and code quality, and use of best practices focused on developing scalable camera software stack from kernel, driver, network and media streaming technologies, as well as to home camera services in user space.
