The Procurement Category Manager is accountable for achieving optimal total cost of ownership, developing multi-year, global category strategies, managing supplier risk, ensuring suppliers adhere to needed timelines, and meeting all business stakeholders’ needs as it relates to direct and indirect material. Will be an active member on cross functional teams for activities including supplier selection, requests for quote, contract negotiations, and business awards. This role will ensure selected supplier performance throughout the course of each project working with stakeholders to make certain project timelines and financial objectives are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Function as the subject matter expert, viewed as the strategic sourcing and negotiation authority sought out by business leaders to support large scale and ongoing negotiations for purchases of direct and indirect materials and services.

  • Build internal capability - encompassing people, processes and technologies - across procurement, engineering, manufacturing, finance, customer service, etc. allowing Alkegen to leverage its size and global position to identify supply partners that position for optimal growth and profitability.

  • Under the framework of the global procurement plan for Alkegen, develop the spend analysis and procurement plan establishing the approach for large contracts, grouping across sites, and the general plan to improve purchasing processes at each plant/site.

  • Develop specific category team plans for assigned spend categories, including milestones, savings targets, resource requirements and implementation plans.

  • Develop specific facility goals and large contract/commodity goals; track financial results, implementation performance and supplier performance. Identify gaps and variances in performance and make adjustments to restore performance to plan.

  • Monitor external markets for commercial opportunities and challenges, identify and resolve gaps between business requirements and supplier performance and identify and resolve gaps in business unit compliance with procurement policies, programs and contracts; pinpoint the required resources for resolution, escalating issues as required.

  • Lead development of quotation strategy; manage development of Request for Quotation (RFQ) documents to be distributed to qualified suppliers; lead detailed comparison of supplier RFQ responses; structure analyses to help stakeholders compare strengths and weaknesses of suppliers and their proposals.

  • Lead the development of negotiation strategies, cost modeling and sensitivity/scenario analysis to help stakeholders understand trade-offs and business benefits of various negotiation strategies/outcomes.

  • Make award notification(s); continue to lead strategic sourcing project through contracting, confirming that negotiated outcomes are properly reflected in final contract language, and through implementation and ongoing governance and supplier relationship management.

  • Together with the Director, Global Strategic Procurement, enhance the culture of procurement excellence.

  • Travel may be required of to 25%

Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering or Business.

  • 5 - 7 years experience in procurement or related process-driven field.

  • 1+ year experience working with contracts / agreements.

  • Knowledge in concepts of negotiating and general procurement principles.
