The Chute laboratory studies hematopoietic stem cells and the regulation of hematopoietic stem cell fate through the microenvironment, or niche. Our laboratory also studies the mechanisms that govern malignant transformation of hematopoietic stem cells to leukemia stem cells.

The Research Associate I will perform a variety of clinical specimen collecting, handling, transporting, processing, and storing protocols. Incumbent will need to operate crucial laboratory equipment to process specimens and assists, maintains, and organizes patients’ clinical electronic data files. This position is also responsible for keeping accurate and detailed records of clinical samples, data, maintains and monitors storage units, lab equipment, and stock of lab supplies. Incumbent observes laboratory safety standards and procedures. This role will be able to perform routine cellular, micro- and molecular biology procedures including, but not limited to Western, Northern blot, DNA/RNA, PCR, protein extraction, cell culture, Immunohistochemistry, and staining. The Research Associate I will also be involved in the design of therapeutic targeting studies using small molecules or custom – designed antibodies to promote hematopoietic regeneration in vitro and in vivo. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of routine laboratory tasks and procedures.

  • May assist with animal husbandry.

  • Maintains lab equipment and related records.

  • Transports, processes, and logs samples.

  • Maintains computer database with relevant clinical information.

  • Performs lab maintenance duties, including glassware cleaning and sterilization.

  • Maintains stocks of general lab materials, and places orders for lab equipment and supplies using PeopleSoft.

  • Assists new students and fellows at the laboratory.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science related field is required.

Experience and Skills:

  • Understanding of general research objectives.

  • Knowledge of database management, computers, and presentation and imaging software.

  • Experience with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols.

  • Must possess digital literacy to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.
