Job Summary

The Controller is responsible for the strategic oversight and development of general accounting, financial reporting, cash management, investments, capital asset reporting, accounts payable, payroll, and the integration of these functions within enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. This position will interface with management throughout the organization. Responsible for regularly improving internal controls and financial processes. Serves as a key finance partner in the development of strategies to achieve organizational goals and objectives.

This position is responsible for directing all aspects of running an efficient team, including hiring, supervising, coaching, training, disciplining, and motivating direct-reports.

Duties

Responsible for financial accounting processes, cash applications, and product line accounting. Ensure meticulous adherence to GAAP standards while aligning these functions with overarching organizational objectives.

Direct all financial and transactional activities within the general ledger, including wire transfers of capitation payments, payroll, overhead, and capital assets, driving operational excellence and efficiency.

Oversee all aspects of the month-end close process which includes the ownership of role assignment along with development and adherence to specific standards. Prepare and produce accurate monthly financial statements and related management reports with applicable analysis. Coordinate and develop detailed variance explanations against budget, forecasts, trends and prior periods.

Ensure timely and accurate submission of all financial reports to external regulatory agencies i.e. California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC), L.A. County Department of Health Care Services (DHS), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), etc.

Direct and orchestrate the audit process for all external audits and regulatory reviews, instilling confidence in compliance measures and mitigating financial risks through strategic oversight.

Responsible for the oversight of the Treasury Department tasked with weekly cash forecasting, ensuring adequate liquidity for operations, maximizing investment returns, oversight of investment partners, monthly and quarterly reporting of investment performance and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Responsible for the oversight of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Department tasked with the financial system strategy, project road map and daily operations for the suite of SAP applications to support Finance Services.

Responsible for the oversight of the Accounting Operations Department tasked with the end-to-end payroll process, maintaining compliance with tax laws and regulations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices, monitor vendor relationships and continued development of processes and tools to improve overall efficiencies of the organization.

Develop strategic goals, objectives, and action plans for staff, and strategically manage hiring, performance reviews, salary reviews, and disciplinary matters for direct reporting employees, cultivating a high-performance team aligned with organizational priorities.

Conduct comprehensive planning to optimize resource allocation and achieve departmental and enterprise-wide goals, leveraging financial insights to inform decision-making at the executive level.

Provide financial guidance and support to non-financial management, fostering a culture of financial literacy and accountability throughout the organization.

Undertake any additional duties as assigned, demonstrating adaptability and executive-level leadership in addressing evolving organizational needs.

Education Required

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

In lieu of degree, equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.

Experience

Required:

Minimum of 9 years of accounting management.

At least 8 years of leading staff or supervisory/management experience.

Experience of applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Skills

Required:

Ability to read, interpret and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.

Proficiency in financial analysis tools and ERP systems; advanced Excel skills.

Knowledge of and ability to use processes, tools and techniques for exploring and evaluating alternative financial scenarios and results.

Knowledge of the functions, tools and processes needed to manage financial assets and liabilities throughout the organization.

Knowledge of the methods, processes, and tools for maintaining the books of the organization and preparing financial statements and reports.

Knowledge of financial and accounting applications specific to the organization.
