What we're looking for:

Experienced and strategic Employee Benefits Attorney with impeccable judgment who will advise our Total Rewards team. Individual must be energized by working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with broad responsibility.

What you'll do:

  • Provide proactive advice and counsel on legal issues arising from administration of retirement (DB and DC), health & welfare, short-term and sales incentive, and non-qualified deferred compensation plans

  • Draft plan amendments and restatements and review summary plan descriptions, notices/disclosures and employee benefits handbook

  • Support benefits related audits and government exams and advise on claims and appeals under ERISA

  • Assist with employee benefits integration issues associated with mergers and acquisitions

  • Manage and coordinate periodic legal review of template agreements used by HR clients (e.g. offer letters, separation/release agreements, etc.)

  • Support Total Rewards and procurement in reviewing and negotiating contracts with benefits consultants and recordkeepers

  • Build and maintain relationships with key Lilly constituencies

Basic Qualifications

  • J.D. degree

  • Admitted to the bar in at least one of the fifty states.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney in areas of employee benefits.

  • Demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in working with senior leadership.

  • Highly motivated and collaborative partner with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with team members, other lawyers, and members of management across all levels of the company.

  • Good judgment and a meticulous level of attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to influence others.

  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately handle highly confidential information.

  • Demonstrated commitment to expand knowledge and adapt to a changing environment.

  • Experience working in a corporate legal department preferred.

Additional Information:

  • Position can be located in Indianapolis at Lilly Corporate Center or Remote

  • Lilly currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $168,000 – $246,400 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above.
