WSP USA Early Career Ecologist in Gainesville, Florida
This Opportunity
WSP is currently looking for an Early Career Ecologist to join our Gainseville, FL location. In this role you will be responsible for oversight and permit compliance associated environmental and engineering consulting projects.
Your Impact
Primarily responsible for inspection and oversight of construction sites/activities for compliance with environmental permit conditions including stormwater and erosion controls
Additional tasks supporting environmental permitting and ecological evaluations:
Jurisdictional wetland delineation
Threatened and endangered species surveys, specifically gopher tortoise
Assessment of potential impacts to wetlands and/or protected species
Proposal preparation, project management, regulatory agency coordination
Wetland mitigation monitoring
Local and/or national travel with possible short-term or long-term assignments at project sites
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Environmental Science, Wildlife Ecology, Wetland Ecology, Botany, or related field.
0-1 years of relative experience
Familiarity with Florida wetland ecology, wildlife ecology, and/or botany
Fluency in regulatory agency guidelines in the state of Florida (FDEP, FWC, USACE, USFWS)
Capable of producing clear and concise written documents
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
Comfortable with managing a workflow that includes field work and completion of reporting tasks for multiple projects in a timely manner
Capable of working independently and effectively with a team
Self-motivated, reliable and dedicated individual
Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector
FWC Gopher Tortoise Agent preferred
Minimum one to two years of professional experience.
Advanced degree (MS, PhD) can be substitute for experience.
