Job Summary:

  • Pratt & Whitney’s Columbus Forge (PWCF) business is looking for a CORE Pilot to help execute and support the CORE and SPS programs throughout the facility. PWCF manufactures precision forged compressor airfoils and isothermally forged disks for multiple commercial and military engine programs.

  • FUNCTION: Demonstrate CORE proficiency and leadership in support of the business unit and functional area to achieve and sustain desired business results. Guide employees and management in using the CORE tools to become a world class leader in the manufacture of jet engine components.

  • This is a 1st shift M-Fri opportunity

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion the use of CORE ( Customer Oriented Results and Excellence )tools including: TPM, Root Cause, 6S, QCPC, LSW, etc., in shop floor operations

  • Work with team/work area/ business unit leaders to establish appropriate strategies and plans to achieve and sustain business results aligned to the CORE operating system, through Standard Production System (SPS) deployment and other CORE Methods and Tools.

  • Actively participate in Tiered Meetings, CI Day and Gemba Walks supporting area and business unit level needs

  • Coach, facilitate and/or lead kaizen / improvement engagements including, MSW, Standard Work, Problem Resolution, Value Stream Mapping, Lean Cell Design, TPM, and Root Cause Analysis.

  • Support SPS training rollout as needed and train employees on the proper use and functionality of the CORE Tools.

  • Identify, collect and share best practices within modular center.

  • Drive CORE / CI culture throughout the facility including maturation of CORE Framework requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must have completed training in at least 100% of the requirements for the CORE Apprentice Certification and actively participated in CORE activities.

  • 2 years of Columbus Forge (Disk or Blades) production experience and knowledge of shop floor/operations practices.

Additional Information:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.

What your day will look like

Reporting directly to the CORE Manager

Participate in the Tier 3 Meetings, CI Day and Gemba Walks

Lead CORE method engagements to resolve top process turn-backs

Ensure all visual management is updated and maintained at each level

Work with Industrial Engineers to create/update SWCS, Standard Work and Operation Leveling

Lead CORE Engagements when necessary and/or be a mentor to those who are leading

Help team members/leaders learn to submit engagements for credit

Work with the CORE Manager to identify actions related to lean transformation and CORE maturity progression plans

Update reports as needed

Participate and/or co-lead CORE Council Meetings

Help manage CORE supplies

Lead CORE section of new hires onboarding training

Work autonomously; expectation is that you are self-managed with a demonstrated attention to detail & follow up

Be dependable & reliable; utilize your proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities that will exist in your daily workload

Be flexible to work times other than your assigned shift for short periods

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.
