Global Analytics & Intelligence Overview

The Global Analytics and Intelligence (GA&I) organisation focuses on four key responsibilities:

  • Uncovering deep strategic understanding of patients, markets, stakeholders, competitors and brands to drive competitive advantage now and for the future

  • Being a collaborative and strategic partner that provides objectivity to inform better decision making

  • Providing recommendations based upon future-oriented insights and opportunities

  • Providing an independent view in decision-making bodies with an external perspective, and a future-oriented insights and early warning intelligence.

GA&I core capabilities are comprised of:

  • Competitive Intelligence – externally focused view to understand how competitor actions will impact AstraZeneca and the implications they will have on clinical trial and global commercial strategies

  • Strong analytics – ability to quantify strategy and support decisions with data and modelling

  • Insights focus – interpret patients, HCP, payers, performance data and more to shape the competitivity of our brands, inform better investment decision making and understand the implications for AstraZeneca

GA&I uses these capabilities to drive decisions by valuing potential assets and shaping winning clinical and commercial strategies.

Team Overview

This role is based in our Respiratory team and will lead the forecasting and analytics activities for a single brand (late stage). Through an in depth understanding of the brand / molecule / therapeutic area, this role provides strategic insights based on robust forecasting models that seize opportunities and identify envelopes. Role will work closely with rest of GACI team in order to consolidate insights from primary market research and competitive intelligence into insights and recommendation. As a partner to the product teams, this role will bring independent and strategic thinking to the brand, supports and challenges where appropriate.

Candidate Focus and Challenge – Job Description

An engaging and influential leader who:

  • Is responsible for the development, delivery and team alignment of the product/brand forecast and related assumptions based on internal best practice processes triangulating with the most robust data possible to maximize confidence ensuring quality, transparency, robustness and efficiency in the development of long term forecasts

  • Leads, negotiates and interacts with key local markets to validate forecast assumptions and market understanding

  • Leads, negotiates and interacts with operations to provide volume forecast needs for new products

  • Ensures forecasting tools and approaches are refined to provide maximum value in underpinning therapy area and brand strategies, clinical investments and business development (merger/licensing/acquisition/divestiture) decisions

  • Provides objective quantitative analyses and leads the development of business cases to determine key opportunities and address critical business issues for the brand and/or TA

  • Aligns and integrate with TA business insight, competitive intelligence and pricing and market access partners to inform forecast assumptions, brand/TA opportunities and brand performance

  • Leads all performance/KPI development and reporting, including best practice sharing across TAs, enabling a thorough understanding of brand performance and opportunities based on a variety of inputs

Candidate Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Science or commercial related degree

  • Good business acumen, strategic thinking and understanding of sales and marketing business practices

  • Analytical experience in the pharmaceutical or consumer industries

  • Thorough understanding of how to build a patient-based forecast with related risks and scenarios

  • Significant experience working with a therapy area or brand team to build and manage a long-term global strategic forecast for a portfolio of pipeline and in-market assets in the pharmaceutical industry

  • Ability to demonstrate use of secondary data sources (IMS, Decision Resources etc.) and performance tracking

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/assignments to demanding deadlines with minimal supervision

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills as well as teamwork abilities

  • Comfortable working in a matrix environment

  • Global mindset and high emotional intelligence

  • Strong written and verbal communication

  • Able to influence at a high level without formal authority and to drive behaviour across GPPS and Senior Executive Team

Desired Requirements

  • MBA or graduate degree in quantitative discipline

  • Understanding of market research and application for forecasting inputs

  • High degree of creativity and innovation in developing new approaches, processes and methodologies

  • In depth knowledge of regional market dynamics through to in-market or regional experience
