POSITION: Airport Maintenance Technician

This position follows all provisions of the CSEA collective bargaining agreement.

SPECIALTY: Lead Process Operator

REPORTS TO: Chief Process Operator

LOCATION: ALB

AIRPORT: Albany International Airport

SUMMARY

Responsible for the operation on an assigned shift of a GAC-FBR anaerobic and aerobic storm water treatment system. Responsibilities include the safe, efficient and routine maintenance involved in the operation of the deicing storm water collection, containment and treatment facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Supervises the operation and personnel of the deicing storm water treatment facility on an assigned shift to assure the most efficient and economical use of equipment, supplies and manpower.

  • Is responsible for the inspection of process systems and machinery.

  • Installs and rebuilds pumps as needed.

  • Operates and troubleshoots boiler bio gas feed system, heat exchangers and valves.

  • Has the ability to use welding and cutting tools.

  • Reports problems with mechanical equipment and instruments to appropriate personnel.

  • Logs in operating data on specified equipment for the purpose of determining efficiencies of operation.

  • Is responsible for keeping and submitting shift reports and entering data into the computer.

  • Provides supervision of and/or performs routine lubrication of equipment during assigned shift.

  • Supervises bulk chemical unloading and transfer operations, including the adjustment of chemical fed rates and nutrient addition.

  • Trains Process Operators on proper collection, containment, distribution and treatment practices to ensure group understanding of operation and maintenance of all equipment and systems.

  • Collects bed height data and engages growth control systems as necessary.

  • Oversees aeration and discharge systems.

  • Understands pure oxygen injection systems.

  • Performs wintertime snow removal and glycol collection.

  • Removes sludge from lagoons.

  • Maintains heat exchangers.

  • Cleans glycol collection and irrigation systems.

  • Assists in the calibration of multiple pH and DO probes.

  • May be required to perform any other related duties as assigned.

  • Participates in Total Quality Management Programs.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the procedures and equipment required for the operation and maintenance of a storm water collection, containment and treatment system.

  • General supervisory ability.

  • Ability to log data.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Working knowledge of COD, BOD, CH4 production, CO2, APC44, VFA, TSS, DO, DOUR and VSS preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

Must possess and maintain and/or be able to secure during the probationary period, a NYS CDL B license and be proficient in operating a forklift or other heavy equipment as may be needed.
